About Us

Threads Galore Quilt Shop and Quilt Inn Rangeley owners and proprietors, Carol & Dan Perkins share lifelong Maine family traditions and love for the needle arts; woodworking and decorative painting; plumbing and building; farming and gardening.  Carol's foray into quilting began in the early 1980's as she took needle in hand to piece and hand quilt her first sampler quilt, followed by many quilts for family members.  Intrigued with the magic of the rotary cutter and machine piecing, Dan pieced his first quilt, a double nine patch, in the early 1990s.  As the saying goes, “the rest is history”, for Carol & Dan have both become award-winning quiltmakers.

Memorial Day Weekend, 1996, marked the opening of Threads Galore Quilt Shop, adjoining our circa 1898 home in the village of Rangeley.  Our new Gammill Longarm Machine was artfully surrounded with about 50 bolts of fabric, a handful of books and patterns, and the basic notions.  Today the Gammill is at home in our private studio and the quilt shop features an abundance of samples ~~ quilts, table runners, wall quilts, and bags galore ~~ all set amidst more than 1000 bolts of high quality 100% cotton quilting fabrics.  We have a large selection of patterns, books, and notions with a multitude of tools and rulers to make your quiltmaking precise and fun!  The showroom displays quilted items for sale, from small wall hangings and table runners to children's quilts, couch quilts and bed quilts of all sizes.  Designer permission is a 'must' for a quilted piece to be offered for sale.  Our award winning quilts are also on display here, or available for viewing, when not being shown around the United States.

In 2003, after a year of loving restoration, we proudly opened the doors of the Quilt Inn Rangeley Retreat Center in the 1890s house next door.  A gathering place for quilters from all around the country to share their love of quilting, away from the bustle of daily life, the Quilt Inn guests – whether here for a day or a week – greatly inspire us with their creations.

We invite all warm-weather visitors to take time to smell the flowers!
An avid gardener, Dan has filled the yard of the quilt shop and the retreat center with flower beds and vegetable gardens, walking paths, sculptures, ponds, fountains and whimsical garden art.  Comfortable benches, the shaded gazebo, as well as the front and back porch rocking chairs encourage  non-quilters and quilters alike to sit awhile and enjoy the view.  Located in the village of Rangeley, a small four-season resort community in the western mountains of Maine, we enjoy visitors from around the country and international visitors as well.  Six major lakes, hundreds of smaller bodies of water, awe-inspiring wildlife, and majestic mountains surround us.  For more details about the Rangeley Lakes Region, please visit our local Chamber of Commerce site at www.rangeleymaine.com. We look forward to your visit, either in person or online!
