Next up is “Crown Jewels”, July 27th. Currently full, we are taking wait list names. August 3rd “Candle Mats, Potholders, and Mug Rugs” offers the perfect class for those wishing to finish up at noontime ~~ openings still available.
GROOVY GIRLS II
Can you believe it's already time to plan for Groovy Girls to start again on Wednesday, August 31st? These monthly gatherings, just 8:30 AM – 10 AM in the lovely Quilt Inn are each individual classes with demos, tips, patterns, snacks, recipes, show & tell, and prizes. Sign up for one, or for the entire 6 month series. The gift potential of the August one is extraordinary! We're doubly enthused as both Carol & Martha will be stitching up the samples/demos this year. You don't want to miss this!! Sign up early to reserve the date(s) that suit your schedule.
OUR MACHINES ARE WHIRRING
Martha's busily stitching up shop samples using all the newest tools and patterns. From scrappy table runners to quilted bags and wine totes, her favorite by far is the Pink Sands Beach “Tahiti Tote”. The turquoise and coral sample is so fabulous, we can barely keep the pattern in stock! Carol's been hunkered down in the studio, coming down the home stretch on the 2011 show quilts. She's nearly ready to hand turn the quilt bindings ~~ most likely in her favorite chair, gazing out at the flowers.
MAINE QUILTS 2011
We encourage you to head to Augusta July 29th through 31st to enjoy this wonderful show. Local exhibitors are Dan Perkins showing two quilts; Carol Perkins; Betsy Henebry of Rangeley and Connecticut; and Anne Walker, whose pieces will be exhibited with the Art Quilts Maine group. The originality and talent showcased by these four quilters make the trek down the mountain more than worthwhile.
QUILT CAMP BUZZ
Emails are flying back and forth as enthusiasm builds among campers eager to be part of the Bonnie Hunter experience. Her blog is filled with stories of scenic journeys, exciting adventures, delicious foods, amazing antique finds, and fun-filled quilt classes. Our Bonnie Hunter weekend is full, with wait list available. We have a few openings in the “With A Twist” weekend. Carol's already got her bin prepared into which we're tossing fabric strips for “Starstruck”.
QUILT INN RETREAT ADVENTURES Our retreat gals from Connecticut arrived recently with passports in hand to enjoy a day “north of the border” in Canada. The western NY state group arrives soon, always eager to enjoy a swim in Rangeley Lake after their 13 hour drive to get here. They amaze us, sometimes coming in just two vehicles! How do they manage that? We're told that sewing machines and quilting projects go in first, people are assigned seats next, and then what space is left is just enough for swimsuits & beach towels, 2 pairs of shorts and tops, and pjs. With a complete laundry room, they are easily set for the week!
OPEN STUDIO DAYS
These are a great way for us locals and seasonal visitors to gather in the spacious, comfortable Quilt Inn studio for a day of uninterrupted quilting and friendship. Stop by the shop to sign up.

OUR FAVORITE NEW PRODUCTS
Heat-n-Bond Feather Lite is just the thing for extra soft appliqués. With ease of sewing through multiple layers, this sewable iron-on fusible product will allow you to create pieces that are supple, pliable, and washable. FriXion Pens were the hottest item at Quilt Market. Erasable gel pens, we have pink or black in singles and 8 packs of multi-colors. FriXion pens have a fine point, perfectly suited for marking quilting designs, drawing stitching lines for half square triangles, and in marking appliqué shapes. The marks disappear instantly with the touch of an iron! We love them!!
This time of year we always add to our Maine “woodsy, nature” fabric wall.
“Elegance” by Moda are life-like pine bough and pine cone prints on backgrounds in black, ivory, or red.
“Northern Cardinals” by Holly Taylor for Moda are gorgeous nature-based prints called “Northern Swag”, “Diamond Dot”, “Arc Print”, and “Woodland Swirl”. Twigs and branches, leaves and berries represent the natural habitat enticing to cardinals. In tones of green fir, natural, cardinal red, and brown spice, this collection is sure to be popular with our many customers searching for something “Rangeley”.
Dan and Carol's four grandkids are all entered in the Children's Parade this year and it will be fun to see the costumes and themes created for the kids by Vanessa & Lucas, Erin and Shawn. Martha looks forward to four year old Parker's once a week visits to “help” in the shop during the school year. Summertime finds four year old Kailey eager to “work” up in the shop too. These shop visits always involve lots of star stickers on arms and legs, buttons galore dumped out on the floor from the family button bin, and lots of laughs as we all “work” in the shop.
Dan and Carol's family plans include a four generation Coolidge gathering on the shore of Green Pond in Oxford, Maine. Carol's Mom will be treated to a yummy 80th birthday cake with lots of help blowing out all of those candles! Martha's family gathers for a week on the shore of Rangeley Lake this year where four generations will celebrate Martha's Mom's 85th birthday with sparklers and cake.
There is nothing we love more than greeting our summer friends and guests, offering our assistance as you plan your summer quilting projects, and seeing your show & tell. May your summer days be enriched by special times shared with family and time spent quietly quilting on the front porch or the back lawn. Enjoy every sunrise, treasure each sunset, and always make time to smell the flowers!
