Dear quilting friends,
Summer has arrived in Rangeley ~ the lupines are in full bloom along the roadsides; newborn fawns, under Mom's watchful eye, venture out into the fields; and American flags wave in the breezes blowing across the lake. We happily welcome back our seasonal quilters and begin friendships with first-time visitors.

SUMMER FAMILY GATHERINGS & CELEBRATIONS
All of us at Threads Galore are happily anticipating summer visits with our family “from away”. Dan and Carol await the arrival of Vanessa and Lucas, Kailey and Jakob for two fun and busy weeks. Their summer family traditions include tie-dying t-shirts with the Rangeley cousins, enjoying the July 3rd Children's Day Parade and fireworks, fishing on Rangeley Lake with the Freeman relatives, and walks to the Pine Tree Frosty for ice cream cones. The playground and beach at Rangeley Lakeside Park are a short walk from Mamie and Bumpa's house ~ just right to burn off some kid energy before afternoon rest time. Special photos will surely be taken when four generations of Coolidge's gather at Carol's Mom's for picnics, swimming and kayaking on Green Pond in Oxford.
Our cleaning duo, Al and Betsey, already have two of their grandchildren here for a summer of Eco-Venture camp, reading club at the Rangeley Library, and enjoying the beautiful lakes and clear mountain air of summer at Granny and Grampa's. The kids recently spent an afternoon turning perfect cartwheels across the lawn of the Quilt Inn as their grandparents put the finishing touches on our Retreat Center before the arrival of our next guests. Maybe Betsey will have them doing some sewing before the summer's over, or at least digging into her fabric stash to choose some fabrics they'd like stitched up into a quilt for them.
Martha and John's family arrives later in July for a fun-filled week on Rangeley Lake. Including Martha's 6 brothers and sisters and their families, this gathering of four generations celebrates Martha's Mom's 87th birthday! Favorite activities are paddle boarding and kayaking on Rangeley Lake, hiking the Mingo Springs Trail & Bird Walk, adding trinkets to our “Rangeley Celebration” geocache on Bald Mountain, and family dinners around the campfire. Of course, there will be a trip or two to Threads Galore. Martha's nieces and nephews love finding all the elves in Dan's gardens and checking the garden pond for frogs.
WE ARE HONORED!
We are happy to be featured in the August/September issue of Quilt Magazine, page 91. We share the page with Sew Main Street of Woodstock, Georgia; Country Traditions of Freemont, Nebraska; and 3 Dudes Quilting of Phoenix, Arizona.
MAINE QUILTS 2013
The Augusta Civic Center will be filled with more than 600 quilts, special exhibits, an auction, appraisal services, and a merchant's mall July 26 – 28, in celebration of Maine Quilts 2013. Dan has entered two quilts, “Spotlight on the Stars” and “Insanity”. Both quilts are original designs, featuring Dan's vibrant palette and trademark pops of color. “Insanity” is a double sided quilt ~ with a bazillion tiny pieced stars. Both quilts were machine quilted by Carol and will be placed on display at Threads Galore following the show.
THE SOCIAL SIDE OF QUILTING ~ OPEN STUDIO, CLASSES, RETREATS, QUILT CAMP
While it's fun to retreat to our sewing rooms and stitch away, the social side of quilting is a beloved piece of American history. From the earliest hand quilting bees to current day quilt gatherings, it seems quilters love to share new techniques, learn from one another, and enjoy show & tell. In the shop, we love seeing the pieces of your current project, being wow-ed by your finished quilts, and offering a tip or two of advice when that's requested.
At Threads Galore, it is important for us to participate in and to offer opportunities for social quilting. We hope you'll join us for one or more of these social quilting events.
- Monday, July 22nd ~ Open Studio Day at the Quilt Inn Rangeley Retreat Center. The perfect place to make progress on your current project. Space is still available
- Wednesday, July 24th ~Tahiti Tote Class ~ Such a wonderful bag. Space is still available.

AUTUMN SPLENDOR SHOP HOP, 2013
Mark your calendar for our second annual Autumn Splendor Shop Hop ~ Thursday, September 26 through Sunday, October 6, 2013. Sponsored by Red Rooster Fabrics, this hop takes you to 7 quilt shops in Maine's western mountains and foothills during the beauty of peak autumn foliage season.
“Joyful Harvest” is the fabric collection from which we are piecing the Autumn Splendor Row-by-Row Quilt, designed by Carol, Dan, and Martha. As soon as we've finished piecing the quilt top, we'll post a photo on the shop hop website. Hoppers visiting all 7 participating shops will receive the instructions to make this quilt. The fabrics are gorgeous!
We continue to add Hofmann 1895 Bali Hand-Dyes in a wide range of colors to our batik room. One bolt in a beautiful summer green has the fun name of “Gecko”.
- Soft & Stable, a ByAnnie's creation, is an amazing product to use in place of batting in purses, bags, totes, and home decorating items. An insulating layer, this is useful for table runners, place mats, and insulated bags. Martha recently used it in our Project Bag sample and loved the ease of working with Soft & Stable as well as the stronger support it provided in the finished bag.
- 24 inch Purse Parts Handbag Zippers, also from ByAnnie's, are nylon coil zippers with a wider zipper tape for ease of installation. Extra long pull tabs make it easier to use the zipper or to insert fabric zipper pulls to match your bag. We have these in a variety of colors.
We are pleased to offer free shipping on all $75 and higher orders placed with us by telephone or through our website store.

We launched our new point of sale check out system on June 1st and greatly appreciate the patience and kindness you've shown us as we've learned the ins and outs, tweaked some glitches, and realized how wonderful this new system will be for us. We're still a work in progress, but are loving the many features and improved ways we can serve you, our customers.
