UTAH “EYE CANDY” Carol and her entourage returned safely from Utah and International Quilt Market. True quilters that they are, they found their way to more than twenty quilt shops as they explored Mt. Zion National Park and the Moab region. The Maine mountains, so beloved by Carol, are dwarfed in size by the mountains and canyons of Utah. Rocks in rich warm tones of terra cotta to red will surely inspire a quilt in the future!
QUILT MARKET GOODS ARRIVING DAILY
The UPS/Fed Ex folks are our new “best friends” as the goodies from Quilt Market arrive at the shop. Carol and Martha are busily stitching up shop samples of our favorite patterns and learning to use some brilliant notions.
OUR FAVORITE NEW NOTIONS
Turn-it-All is a clever tool for turning fabric tubes right side out. Be it sun-dress straps, bag handles, embellishments or apron ties, this tool takes all the frustration out of this job. It's Made in the USA!
The Clover Kanzashi Flower Maker celebrates the Japanese art form of folding and stitching to create five petal flowers. Just the thing for pins or embellishments for bags, headbands, or clothing. We look forward to sitting on the porch or down by the frog pond with some fabric scraps and our hand-sewing basket to stitch up a “garden” of Kanzashi flowers.
Magnet-Ficent Invisible Quilt Hanger is an invisible quilt hanging system for quilts of all sizes. A great solution to hanging quilts that makes it easy to swap them out with updates to your décor or seasonally.
Mary Ellen's Best Wash is a laundering product that cleans and removes stains from fine fabrics and quilts.
Mary Ellen's Made By Hand is a hand therapy relief gel that is helpful for cuts, bruises, burns, arthritis and much more. We love it for healing up those finger tip skin cracks from quilting.
Grommets that can be applied without the use of any tools are available in two sizes and many colors. Perfect for our latest bags!
OUR FAVORITE NEW BAG PATTERNS
"Letty's Bag" is a larger bag with an ingenious handle so you can carry it either as a shoulder bag or as a cross body bag. Carol's sample in browns with tortoise grommets has caught the eye of many already. One customer calls it “the perfect beach bag”.
“Kathleen's Purse” features grommets and decorative buttons on the straps and is a nice mid-size bag with organizational features.
“Tahiti Tote” by Pink Sands Beach is a great design with a zipper at the top, definitely resembling those “famous designer” bags. Loads of pockets on this one!
MORE FAVORITE PATTERNS
By Atkinson Designs, “Readers Wrap” is a padded ebook reader case so you can carry yours about in style. “Pillow Trio” features designs that are fun and funky – great for dorm rooms and teens. “Wine and Dine” includes a carrier for two bottles of wine (red & white) plus pockets for your corkscrew and wine glass charms as well as the Lunch bag with a beverage holder, silverware holder and room for your meal.
By Fig Tree Designs, “Sit Upon” is the perfect box cushion to take to picnics and sporting events, outdoor concerts and quilt classes.
By Pieced Tree Designs, “Fine Dining” will have you with a set of new placemats in no time. “Dandy Candy” is a table runner that will use all sorts of scraps from your “stash”. “Doing the Twist” and “Honey Sticks” are baby and kid sized quilts – fast and fun.
FAVORITE NEW FABRIC
“Grand Finale” by Sandy Gervais for Moda is our new line inspired by autumn. In shades of bittersweet, moss, ivory glow, goldenrod and walnut, these fabrics are calling our names to stitch up table runners, seasonal quilts and bags. The prints include oak leaves & acorns, pumpkins, several small vine/floral prints and a fun large floral with a contemporary flair.
With much more new fabric on order, we are constantly moving bolts down to the Bargain Corner at $6 per yard. Great savings and perfect for quilt backings!

GROOVY GIRLS II
Based on ideas from Atkinson Designs and utilizing patterns available only at Groovy Girls classes, Groovy Girls II will get underway August 31st this year. While this is a group of 6 sessions, each one is a separate theme and you may sign up for the entire series or just those that fit into your busy life. We had such a blast last year ~~ lots of laughs, loads of new ideas, and an incredible number of finished projects. Class dates and pricing options will be available soon.
The moose are out on the roadsides, majestic as always, and the wild lupine looks to be more beautiful than ever this year. We look forward to seeing you soon and encourage you to take time to smell the flowers while you're here!
