December 2013 News
Dear quilting friends,
We are in the midst of our Stuff Your Stocking, 12 Days of Christmas event ~ and what fun for the participants and all of us! Carol put together remarkable savings on each day's offering; Martha's well into the organizing and stuffing; and Dan's stocking up on shipping supplies. Each stocking bag will be different as participants are able to tell us “Yes, please” or No, thank you” each day and some have chosen to add more than one of each item to their stocking.
We invite you to send “your” Santa to Threads Galore to peruse some useful and fun stocking stuffer items we have on hand, while supplies last. Just a reminder that Gift Certificates are available, in any amount, and are available on our website, by telephone, or in the shop.

“TOOL TIME SAMPLER” CLASS ~ Studio 180 Design Tools
Each of the five workshops in this series will explore one or more of our favorite Studio 180 Design tools; offer students block designs using the tool(s) of that day; and build your confidence along the way to be able to “Tuckerize” your favorite pieced quilt block units. Students will create enough blocks to put together a 65” x 83” Tool Time Sampler quilt top, or may choose to use their blocks in several smaller projects. Many of you already own some of the Studio 180 tools. This is the perfect opportunity to increase your knowledge and use of these invaluable quilting tools.
Tool Time class will meet once a month, January through May, in the spacious and comfortable studio of the Quilt Inn Rangeley Retreat Center. Space is limited, so please sign up soon. Instructor is Dan Perkins, certified Studio 180 Design Instructor.
VISIT YOUR LOCAL QUILT SHOP DAY ~ Saturday, January 25th, 2014
Visit Your Local Quilt Shop Day is a worldwide celebration of independent quilt and fabric shops. More than simple retail venues, quilt shops have become places where quilters form connections, share stories, enjoy classes, learn new techniques, and are inspired to work with fabric in exciting new ways.
To honor this special day, Threads Galore will be offering a day-long class over in the studio of the Quilt Inn, taught by Dan. Stars in the Walkway, designed by Dan, utilizes the Studio 180 Designs V Block Tool and your stash bin of 5 inch Charms or 2-1/2 inch strips. We hope you can join us!

AN AWESOME DESIGN BLOG
Design Seeds offers a daily color palette, inspired by beautiful views; wildlife; and botanical treasures. What an interesting way to assemble fabrics for a quilt, reflecting your favorite gifts of Mother Nature! We especially love the soft palette pulled from the photo of the deer, curled up on the ground. Pour yourself a mug of your favorite warm beverage and spend some time with Design Seeds.

OUR FAVORITE HOLIDAY TRADITIONS
As Dan prepares the Thanksgiving feast each year, Carol and the 4 generations of family members present gather around a table in the showroom to enjoy a holiday craft project. This year, ornaments were created by swirling heated crayon shavings within glass Christmas tree balls ~ each one is unique. The nieces love spending time up in the fabric shop, and sometimes talk Aunt Carol and Uncle Dan into creating a small project for them during December.
Martha's family goes out collecting greens, berries, and seed pods to spend the weekend before Thanksgiving creating swags, wreaths, and table arrangements for their extended family. This year they gathered white pine, juniper, spruce, balsam fir, hemlock, cedar, scotch pine, red twig dogwood, and winter berries. Martha loves making the bows from carefully selected ribbons ~ plaids, glitzy gold, polka dotted, and frosted snowflake ribbons this year ~ each chosen to match the recipient's tastes. Their creations are given at Thanksgiving. One much-loved project is to choose a clear glass vase; dump in one bag of fresh cranberries; arrange greens as desired, and fill with water. The cranberries keep the water smelling sweet all through the season.
We all love the “Pie First” tradition, carried on in memory of Carol's beloved Dad, Stan Coolidge. Having a hearty sweet tooth, Stan began a family tradition years ago of enjoying coffee and a slice of all the pies midmorning, while the holiday meal was cooking. Soon the whole family was enjoying mid-morning plates of pie and coffee or milk. You may think this means that they didn’t have pie for dessert ~ well they did, and still do!
As you gather with your family and friends this holiday season, may shared traditions deepen your connections to one another. With winter's arrival later this month, may this quiet time of year find you immersed in a wonderful quilting project.
Thank you for reading our news, dropping by the shop, and visiting our website. We appreciate your loyalty and support all through the year.
