March News - Longarming, Retirement and More

Threads Galore Quilt Shop
March 2019 Newsletter

Dear Quilting Friends,

Twenty three years ago this month our Gammill Longarm was delivered.  On the sidewalk.  In crates.  I think we were the third or fourth longarm in Maine.  At that time there were no dealers, reps or showrooms.  We ordered directly from Mr Gammill of Missouri.  Repeat ~ no dealers.  That meant no one to “set” the machine up and go over the basics like how to load the quilt, how to thread the machine, how to deal with tension issues etc etc.  It was a huge learning curve and the first year…..let’s just say I was not a happy quilter.  Eventually we “got it” and quilted many, many quilts ~ charity quilts, quilts for others and our own quilts, including many show and ribbon winners.  I got my money’s worth out of the ole Gammill.  Last year I decided it was time for an upgrade and traded her in for a brand new INNOVA.  A “bit” of a learning curve and a couple technical issues but Lena the Longarm and I eventually made friends.  As we were thinking of changes to come regarding TGQS (see below) we thought that adding the computer to the longarm and quilting for others again would be the way to go forward.  We are still waiting for the computer to be installed (fingers crossed for next week) then once we are trained and comfortable using it we will once again offer our quilting services to you.  (and no, we are not sure when that will be as other things need to fall into place first)

Remember when the longarm was up in the shop?

Twenty three years ago this coming Memorial Weekend we opened the doors to Threads Galore Quilt Shop.  Our original plan was longarm quilting, a few notions, batting, a few bolts of fabric for backings and an outlet to sell our finished quilts.  Who knew at that time that we would grow into a full fledged quilt shop and retreat center, an organizer of three Quilts In The Garden Quilt Shows, three Autumn Splendor Shop Hops and a sponsor of eighteen years of Quilt Camps!  What a ride it has been!
And now WE are twenty three years older and ready to move on.  We will be officially closing the doors to Threads Galore Quilt Shop this coming Memorial Day weekend.  During this month that we are closed we are re-organizing the shop to get ready for our final two months of business.  Yes, there will be a lot of discounted items.  No, not everything is to go as we will still be quilters and longarmers and have use for many of the items here.  Stay tuned for a SALE newsletter right before we re-open on March 28th.

Nothing is changing across the driveway at Quilt Inn Rangeley.  We have asked our Inn-er’s over the past year if they would stop coming if there was no quilt shop.  Most of them have told us that the quilt shop was always a bonus and they are coming for the spaciousness, comfort and uninterrupted stitching time at the Inn.  Check out our calendar for available dates!

We have two Open Studio dates scheduled for April.  They are:
Tuesday, April 9
Tuesday, April 30th

We’d love to have you join us for a day of quilting inspiration and friendship in a beautiful setting.

ORDER IN CHAOS is headed to MQX and other ramblings……

Thank you to all of you that have been a part of our Quilt Shop journey. We are hoping you can stop in within the next couple of months.

Watch for our end of the month sale info!

Keep Stitching,

Carol & Dan
