Threads Galore Quilt Shop & Quilt Inn Rangeley Retreat Center
January 2011 News
Happy New Year!
Rather than celebrating in a local pub, we prefer to retreat to our quilting studio and ring in 2011 with Bali Pops stacked next to our machines. “Mango Margarita”, “Sangria”, “Zinfandel” and “Grasshopper” are sure to get anyone's creative juices flowing! Popsicle Sticks by Atkinson Designs is the perfect multi-sized pattern for any fabric “flavor” and you'll have your quilt top pieced before the crystal ball has fallen in Times Square. PRAIRIE POINTER & BAGS GALORE
Our favorite new tool is the Prairie Pointer, a clever pressing tool from Pieces Be With You. Adding perky accents, bold highlights, or sophisticated detail to quilts, garments and home decor projects, prairie points can be made with great accuracy and lots of fun. View the Prairie Pointer YouTube demo here!As you can see, Carol had great fun adding prairie points to the Zippy Strippy bag and surprised all the Perkins and Coolidge gals at their family's post-Christmas potluck gathering.
GROOVE INTO A NEW YEAR
You're invited to join in the Groovy Girls fun – and gather great ideas for quick and easy ways to embellish & individualize fun projects. “Get Organized” is the theme for the January 5th meeting while “Mom & Me” will finish up this series on February 7th. Each date is a single session, 8:30 – 10 AM. No need to pack all your quilting gear – just come prepared to soak up loads of new tips, techniques, and ideas. It's a lot of fun! Stop by the shop to sign up.

WINTER TABLE RUNNER CLASS
Carol has designed a winter table runner using Deb Tucker's V Block Trimmer tool. Come spend Sunday afternoon, January 23rd, learning to use this new tool, piecing three blocks, and putting them together into a table runner. Isn't it time to put away the holiday ones?? TRUTH, TRADITIONS, & MYTHS ABOUT THREADS
This is a great article about cotton vs. polyester threads. We stock both in the shop and love the results we get when we choose the best thread for each project's individual needs.
How will we greet the New Year at Threads Galore? Dan's piecing and quilting an original moose appliqué custom order quilt. Martha's designing and piecing a t-shirt quilt, honoring a loved one, for a customer. Carol's got visions of her Maine Quilts 2011 show quilt dancing around in her head and will soon have bolts of fabric grouped about the shop as she “auditions” the possibilities.
We look forward to seeing you soon – in the shop or online Show & tell is always welcomed!
