QUILT CAMP MEMORIES
Even with snow falling on the pumpkins in the dooryard, our memories of Fall Quilt Camp 2011 are vivid and inspiring. Bonnie Hunter loved Maine and after spending four days with her, one can't help but be enthused about the opportunities for fun and creativity hidden in those baskets, bins and drawers of “leftovers” we all have. One of the highlights of Bonnie's stay was the Trunk Show ~~ carefully hidden away in two fifty pound duffle bags ~~ a colorful scrap celebration! Bonnie advocates leaving behind your “scrap saver system” and thinking outside the box to create a “scrap user system”. Our favorite Bonnie slogan is, “if that fabric was $9 per yard when you purchased two yards of it, those small leftover pieces are still worth $9 per yard and deserve to be used.” By Sunday morning we all had become scrap users!!
Our second Quilt Camp weekend perfectly illustrated Bonnie Hunter's philosophy that quilting is a “Lifestyle” and the reason why we choose to gather at retreats, quilt camps, and workshops is the person to our left and the person to our right and the richness the social aspect of quilting brings to our lives. Quilt Camp “With A Twist” did not have an instructor, yet the sharing of tips and techniques flowed abundantly in an atmosphere of reconnection with old friends and the meeting of new friends from the islands off the coast of Maine. This weekend was an experiment which was so well-loved that we “broke camp”, saying “see you next year.”
During our hikes along the Mingo Springs Trail & Bird Walk just outside the door of the Country Club Inn or the late night stitching sessions in the quilting room, our campers couldn't help but wonder what's planned for Quilt Camp 2012. We're still finalizing the details and you'll be able to sign up in February, 2012. In the meantime, here are the dates (Oct 11 ~ 14 & Oct 19 ~ 21) to mark your calendar and plan to join us for another fun year at Threads Galore Fall Quilt Camps.
We still have a limited number of autographed copies of Bonnie Hunter's books available for sale. Please don't wait if you're interested in Adventures with Leaders & Enders: Make More Quilts in Less Time, Scraps & Shirttails: Reuse, Re-purpose, Recycle!, or Scraps & Shirttails II: Continuing the Art of Quilting Green. These books are available at the shop or in our online store.

WE WELCOME GROUP VISITS
It's always a special day when a group is coming to visit and we invite you to plan a visit with your quilting friends or guild members. We offer a variety of demos using specialty rulers and tools, tours of our Quilt Inn Retreat Center, and are happy to make luncheon reservations at a local restaurant for you. Please call in advance with your planned date, estimated arrival time, and approximate number of visitors and we'll be all ready for you.

FAVORITE NEW PATTERN
Bags continue to be popular as quick projects that make fun gifts. Lollipop Bags by Atkinson Designs features two designs, small and large, removable wrist straps, and fabric embellishments. Martha has stitched up both designs as shop samples.
NEW FABRICS Tonal Foliage by Painted Planet for David Textiles showcases botanically inspired prints in tone on tone colorations. Our selection includes Dusty Lavender, Butter, Periwinkle, Pumpkin, Cobalt, Wisteria, Yellow-Orange, Teal, and Purple. These prints are strong enough to stand alone as focus fabrics, however equally usable as one of many prints in your quilt design.
We want to thank each of you for your friendship and allowing us to be part of your quilting lives. We appreciate your loyalty and are grateful for your business. We look forward to seeing you soon, in the shop or online!
