About Brenda Hall
Brenda brings a unique background to our Certified Instructor Program. Her position as Director of Human Resources for a high-technology company in Ottawa, Canada has given her extensive teaching and organizational skills. Brenda has organized corporate retreats, facilitated large group forums, conducted group training, and lectured over the course of her career.

Brenda is a Member of the Board of the Images Quilt Festival in Lowell, Massachusetts. This city-wide celebration of quilts is one of the larger regional shows in New England, supporting the non-profit New England Quilt Museum. In addition, she volunteers on the Board of Directors of the Cocheco Quilters Guild, in Dover New Hampshire. In both of these volunteer roles, Brenda has been responsible for selecting faculty and organizing successful programs and workshops.

Brenda believes the certified instruction program provides a great opportunity to bring Judy Niemeyer's beautifully designed quilts to New England. In addition to Brenda's passion for Judy's patterns, she admires Judy's teaching style, appreciating the high standard she brings to teaching and her unparalleled commitment to students. Brenda has shared this commitment to high quality training in the many workshops she has designed and led in the past. She looks forward to working with Judy Niemeyer and her fellow certified instructors to deliver top-quality training to students across the country.

Workshop Information

Brenda teaches a process on how to implement fast and easy cutting techniques, stacking techniques, paper-piecing techniques, speed piecing techniques and curved piecing.  All of Judy Niemeyer's quilt designs for foundation paper piecing use precut fabric pieces designed and cut from over sized templates.

Students are required to complete precutting before the class.  Students typically need 4 weeks in advance to prepare for a class.   Brenda will make available all the precutting information and a supply list for the pattern you select once your decision has been finalized.

Pattern selection is broken down into three categories ~ Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.
  • Beginner:  A beginner is someone who has no experience of foundation paper piecing. A beginner student will need some sewing experience. They must know how to use their machine, and a rotary cutter, and they need basic knowledge on how to assemble a quilt.
  • .Intermediate: An individual who has basic knowledge on the construction of quilt blocks, quilt layouts, sewing techniques, curved piecing, and a little paper piecing experience.
  • Advanced:  Someone who is knowledgeable about foundation paper piecing, curved piecing, applique, and knows how to construct and design their own quilt layouts.  Anyone who has completed one of Judy Niemeyer's quilt patterns or taken a class from Judy or another certified instructor of her techniques would fall under an advanced student.
