Betsy Henebry
Betsy is one of those who come and help fill up our town of Rangeley
during the spring through the fall. Her primary residence is in East
Hartland, Ct, a much smaller town than Rangeley. At this time of her
life, she considers herself a grandmother, wife and quilter with the
quilter coming before the wife and even sometimes before the grandmother
at different times and moods. She took her first quilt class in 1976 and
hasn’t stopped. She taught beginner quilting for about 15 years before her
husband, Brendan, retired and their life became too unpredictable. An
award winning quilter, Betsy enjoys hand applique and hand quilting the
best.
Anne Walker
Fiber artist, Anne Walker, of Rangeley evolved through traditional
quilting and basket making and now concentrates on art quilts in a
fabric/fiber collage style. Landscapes of the Maine mountains and
lakes, as well as Anne’s impressionistic pieces are inspired by her
natural surroundings and travels. Anne inspires her students to utilize a
variety of quilting and embellishment techniques and styles.
Mary Dubay
Mary started sewing in high school and hasn’t stopped. At first she made
clothes for herself and then her children. As the girls started preteen
years they preferred store bought clothes over "Mom's" creations so she
then switched to decorative items for the house (pillows, drapes and
slipcovers). That path lead her to her first hand-quilting class in the
mid 80's - immediately falling in love with quilting and the beautiful
results.. After many years of hand quilting, she eagerly started machine
piecing and quilting. Mary loves taking classes to learn new techniques
and meet other quilters who share her enthusiasm for beautiful fabric.
Ann and Janet/Mother & Daughter Quiltworks
Janet Allen and Ann Jones - A wonderful joining of two women who have
spent the better part of their lives teaching people the art of
traditional quilt making. Janet opened her first quilt shop in 1979 in
Sanford, Maine and later moved it to Alfred at The Jordan House Inn. For
many years she was involved in local, state and New England Guilds. Ann
joined her mother in the 1980's and together formed
Quiltworks, teaching and running retreats throughout Maine. Both have many
women who are always looking for guidance, fun classes and new projects.
