Threads Galore Quilt Shop
& Quilt Inn Rangeley Retreat Center

Dear quilting friends,

The lushness of spring has arrived in Rangeley and our evening walks find us soaking up the smell of freshly mowed grass and watching the lilac buds emerge from winter dormancy. We have a nice long season of lilacs here at Threads Galore Quilt Shop, with many varieties of purples around our yard.  Carol's favorite is a beautiful old-fashioned deep purple lilac just outside the windows of the Quilt Inn Rangeley Retreat Center. Martha's favorite is a sweet lavender lilac in the dooryard of the house and shop.

A recent windy rainstorm with sideways-blown pelting rain brought a sense of urgency to our plans to replace the wrap-around roof above the studio in the Quilt Inn. We are so thankful our retreat gals were “on their toes” in noticing our roof had sprung a leak. Buckets were put into place, sewing tables rearranged, and quilting merrily underway in no time. The Quilt Inn now has a beautiful new roof above the studio!

NEW REGULAR QUILT SHOP HOURS ~
TUESDAY THRU SATURDAY, 10AM UNTIL 4 PM

CLOSING AT 2:30 PM ON THURSDAY, JUNE 19TH

OPEN STUDIO DAYS AT THE QUILT INN RETREAT CENTER ~
Once a month, Monday gatherings offer quilters an opportunity to get together with new friends and long-standing friends, enjoying a day of stitching in the comfortable studio of the Quilt Inn. We bring along whatever we are working on or plan to begin a new quilt project. The exchanging of ideas, brainstorming of challenges, show & tell, and shared camaraderie leave us all energized and inspired. A couple of potlucks have been planned and the dates for June through December have been scheduled. Space is limited, so sign up soon for the dates you prefer. The studio is comfortably air-conditioned. We look forward to having you join us!

QUILT SHOWS ~
New England's oldest and largest quilt show, Vermont Quilt Festival, June 27th ~ 29th, is a hugely popular event with a beautifully displayed quilt show, vendors market, and an impressive class schedule. Dan and Carol's quilt, “Spotlight on the Stars” will be shown at VQF. We know several of our local/seasonal quilters enjoy this show each year.

You may wish to make a calendar note for Maine Quilts, July 25th ~ 27th, at the Augusta Civic Center. Dan will be teaching a Lemoyne Star Table Runner class as well as exhibiting his 2014 original design show quilt, currently being artistically quilted by Carol.

ROW BY ROW SUMMER TRAVEL EVENT ~
Our Threads Galore pattern for the Row By Row summer event is based on the Rangeley Star and the fabrics celebrate the beautiful season of autumn. We've also created a table runner pattern and kits, as well as a fun mug rug. We look forward to greeting all Row by Row participants during the summer. Please visit the Maine Row by Row facebook page often as the participating shops post the designs of each of their rows.

AUTUMN SPLENDOR SHOP HOP 2014 ~  SEPTEMBER 23RD THRU OCTOBER 5TH
Dan is designing our Autumn Splendor Shop Hop Quilt; Martha has pulled a selection of fabrics; and Carol will soon give the final “OK” for cutting, piecing, quilting, pattern-writing, and kit preparation to be in full swing here at Threads Galore. Please visit the shop hop official website to see the fabrics, one of which must be used by each shop in their quilt. All shop hoppers will receive each shop's pattern, at no charge, when your passport is presented. Mark your calendars to join in this fun celebration of our most colorful season!

COMING SOON FROM STUDIO 180 DESIGNS ~
We eagerly await the arrival of the Corner Pop tool! The possibilities are endless when you can easily and accurately “pop a corner” onto any quilt block. Carol is predicting this may become our new favorite tool. We are also expecting several new patterns, including Bands of Glory, one of the projects being offered by Dan at Fall Quilt Camp weekend #2.

FALL QUILT CAMP 2014 ~
We invite you to join us for a total weekend retreat ~ meals, lodging, instruction all included ~ at the cozy and comfortable Country Club Inn. Jackie Kunkel's weekend features an original quilt design choice, utilizing the Wing Clipper tool, as well as three choices based on Judy Niemeyer designs. Dan's weekend offers either Southern Hospitality or Bands of Glory, both utilizing Studio 180 Design tools. We currently have some spaces left in both weekends, however you won't want to wait too long to register for the quilt camp of your choice.

SPRING QUILT CAMP 2015 ~
Yes, 2015!! Plans are finalized and we are already receiving inquiries about our first Spring Quilt Camp, held at the historic Rangeley Inn, the gateway to the village of Rangeley. Both instructors, Dan Perkins and Michelle Hiatt are quilt designers and certified Studio 180 Design Instructors. Meals, lodging, and all instruction are included in this package as well. Students will be able to focus on one project or select several projects and there is opportunity to become comfortable with many new piecing techniques during your stay with us.

Those traveling by air may wish to consider the Portland Jetport and we invite you to contact Carol with whatever questions you may have. We are currently accepting registrations and deposits for Spring Quilt Camp, 2015. We hope you will consider joining us for this wonderful event!

NEW FABRICS ~

  • Home For The Holidays, by Faye Burgos for Marcus, is a lovely selection of florals and paisley prints, done in rich red, forest green, and soft cream. Sophisticated, yet easily usable, this line is suitable year-round for your quilts, table runners, or quilted bags.
  • Winter Wonderland, by Debi Hron for Spectrix, is a fun collection based on two border prints featuring the cutest, happy snowmen and winter animals. A beautiful star print on turquoise blue and two fun, modern, circular prints on Christmas green and red complement the snowmen fabrics. Martha has already pieced a square wall quilt/table topper from the Masquerade pattern and then used her leftover snowmen to make a cute little Martha's Stars Table Runner.

We love the ongoing spring return of our “snowbird” quilters as well as welcoming newcomers to our shop. Please remember to bring your latest show & tell to share with us! Until next time, we look forward to seeing you in the shop, chatting with you by telephone, or having you “visit” us online.

Happy quilting,

Carol, Dan & Martha
