Threads Galore Quilting Services

Dear Quilting Friends,

Happy September!! The evenings are starting to cool and the leaves on the trees are beginning to turn to their brilliant fall colors. Maine Conservation officials are calling for a vibrant fall foliage season ~ it’s time to make your autumn travel and quilting plans!

Mark your calendars to join us Thursday, September 23rd through Sunday, October 5th, for Autumn Splendor Shop Hop 2014. Free patterns at every shop! Terrific prizes! All this and more make for an exciting loop around the western mountains and lakes region of Maine during the peak of fall foliage season.
Visit the shop hop website to download your passport and plan your route ahead of time. Each shop has listed the seasonal events in their area to enrich your shop hop experience.  Many hoppers last year planned overnight stays at one of the lakeside motels, mountainside Inns or comfortable B&Bs in the area.
We love our version of the Autumn Splendor Quilt! Fabrics from the Autumn Breeze Collection by Red Rooster and Studio 180 Design’s V-Block Trimmer were used to create this original design by Dan.

Dan will be offering demo’s on the V-Block Trimmer and other Studio 180 Tools during the shop hop hours: Monday ~ Saturday 9:00 AM ~ 5:00 PM and Sunday 11:00 AM ~ 4:00 PM.

We have been inspired by our summer groups of Quilt Inn-ers and love that they are able to enjoy our retreat house here in the mountains of Maine. Our July group from western New York state decided that their previous one week visit just wasn't long enough so they stayed for 10 days this year! Our August group thought that was a great idea and are making their plans for extra days next year also.

We are super excited to be welcoming to Rangeley and Quilt Inn, several of Dan’s fellow Studio 180 Design’s Certified Instructors for a week later this month. I can’t wait to see the creativity from this group of talented quilters. Dan plans on stitching with them when he is not needed in the shop and has been been busy designing a new quilt to work on while there.

Gather your friends, check your calendar (and ours) and contact us to plan your own quilting getaway at our comfy and cozy retreat center.

We still have a couple of spaces left in our Fall Quilt Camp with Jackie Kunkel. Dan’s fall weekend is sold out but we still have openings for our Spring Quilt Camp to be held at The Rangeley Inn in downtown Rangeley. Both Instructors, Dan Perkins and Michelle Hiatt, are certified Studio 180 Design Instructors. A variety of projects will be offered and campers may choose to focus on one quilt, or learn specialized piecing techniques of each of several projects.

Book your trunk show/workshop with Dan for the upcoming quilting season. He shows a wide array of quilts with time for questions and answers during his 90 minute presentation. Workshops may be half-day, full day or multiple days.

We will be traveling to Virginia in March and would love to present your group or guild with a Trunk Show or Workshop, either in that area or anywhere between here and there! Please contact us for more info.

A pot-luck lunch of assorted salads was enjoyed by all at our August Open Studio Day. Recipes were shared and tummies were filled. Multiple projects were in the works ~ clothesline bags, Studio 180 patterns, loons and more.

Our next Open Studio Day is Monday, September 8th. Join us for a day of uninterrupted stitching in the spacious Quilt Inn studio. Advance registration please.

  • The Great Outdoors by Suzy’s Zoo for Hoffman Fabrics ~ a couple of novelty prints featuring whimsical woodland creatures.
  • Purrsnickitty by Whimsicals by Red Rooster Fabrics ~ a fun print of cats with personality.....Scaredy Cat, Prissy Cat, Naughty Kitty, Fat Cat and Cool Cat....along with a couple of companion florals.
  • Glory Bound by Red Crinoline Quilts ~ this 64” x 64” scrappy quilt would make a great exchange quilt. Our August group of Quilt Inn-ers were piecing this during their recent stay.

Granddaughter Kailey and I started working on a new bed quilt for her during her summer visit. We picked the pattern “Windspinner” by Prairie Grass Patterns. She picked out all the 2-1/2” strips from our strip drawers and the background and we got to work. We got all the blocks complete, arranged on the design wall and the borders picked out before she headed back to Virginia. I completed the top, quilted and bound it and mailed it off to Kailey a few days ago.  Looks like she received it!!
