Threads Galore Quilting Services

Dear quilting friends,

While the lengthening daylight invites us to come outdoors, the swirling winter winds make the warm quilting studio and our little work area up in the quilt shop seem quite appealing. Dan's busily designing and piecing his first 2014 show quilt ~ vibrant jewel tones on a rich gray background. Carol has learned to tip-toe carefully to her area of the studio, as Dan's favorite place to lay out block units is on the radiant heated floor.
Once behind her Gammill longarm quilting table, with sunlight streaming in the window and fun music filling the room, Carol's tackling her “Git 'r Done” list of items to be quilted ~ one by one by one. Alternating an intricately quilted table runner with a more simply quilted lap quilt adds variety to her days.
Up in the shop, Martha's experimenting with Studio 180's most recent tool, Diamond Rects and finding this tool helpful in creating block units as well as interesting pieced border units. Storm At Sea, an early American classic quilt block uses the units one can create with the Diamond Rects tool and from there, the possibilities are endless. Martha's busy restocking our large baskets with bundles of 9 coordinating fat quarters. We love it when bundles are selected for purchase just minutes after they've been placed on the display table in the showroom. And then, it's time to make more!
March is our time to catch our breath and relax a bit; enjoy time with extended family; and be ready to greet you all in the spring. Carol and Dan check email frequently and the website is always “open”.
Our annual mini quilt camp runs February 21-23 this year in the comfortable, cozy and sunny Quilt Inn Rangeley Retreat Center, just across the driveway from the quilt shop. “Doubly Charmed” is this year's theme and we'll explore two sets of units for two different quilts, all from one stack of five inch squares. If interested, please let us know as soon as possible and we'll help you with registration and provide you with your supply list and pre-cutting instructions. It's the perfect cure for cabin fever!

Join us for a four day weekend of undisturbed quilting fun and friendship with Instructors Jackie Kunkel or Dan Perkins at the cozy, charming Country Club Inn, reserved exclusively for Quilt Campers.
Jackie Kunkel, of Canton Village Quilt Works, is the instructor October 16th – 19th. Jackie is a Judy Niemeyer Nationally Certified Teacher, quilt designer, quilt blogger, and producer of Jackie's Quilting Chronicles podcast. Campers will select from one of three Judy Niemeyer designs or “Island Breeze” by Jackie Kunkel as their weekend project.
Dan Perkins, of Threads Galore Quilt Shop, is the instructor October 23rd – 26th. Dan is a Studio 180 Design Certified Instructor, quilt designer, as well as an award-winning quilt exhibitor. Dan's developing a line of quilt patterns for some of his designs. Campers will select one of two quilts, utilizing Studio 180 tools, as their weekend project. “Southern Hospitality” is suitable for a comfortable beginner while the second design choice will be appropriate for more advanced quilters.
Please contact Carol with any questions you have about our Fall Quilt Camps. Registrations are now being accepted for both weekends.
Spring retreat dates at the Quilt Inn are now being confirmed, with scattered dates still available. There are plenty of spaces during the other months of the year for your group's consideration. We are always happy to help you with ideas and plans for your group's first retreat or return visit. Please contact us with any questions you may have.
Mark your calendars and plan some time “on the road”, enjoying independent quilt shops around the State of Maine during the month of April. Our shop's quilt has been pieced and quilted and we absolutely love the fabrics! After a long, cold winter it's always fun to get out, see what's new, and gather inspiration for your next quilt project.
Another great spring event is the MQX Quilt Festival show in Manchester, NH, April 10th – 12th. We are still waiting to hear if our quilts were accepted for exhibition and look forward to this first show of the season.

Now that's a mouthful!! Join us Saturday, April 26th, 10 AM until 4 PM, in the studio of the Quilt Inn as Dan coaches you to become a comfortable user of any Studio 180 Tools. No formal projects. You simply bring your Studio 180 Tools, some fabrics to play around with, and explore the precision and ease of working with your tools. So, take that shrink wrap off your tools and make a list of your questions and join us for a fun workshop. You'll go home wondering how you ever quilted without these tools.

Join us for three Wednesdays this spring and create an array of sampler blocks using many of the Studio 180 tools. Each week will focus on one or more of the tools, with quilt block options in which to use the units you've pieced. Soon you'll have enough blocks for your Tool Time Sampler. Designed by Dan, the pattern is included in the class fee.
Do you have some quilts-in-progress? Are you yearning for an uninterrupted day to try a new quilted bag project? Do you just want to gather with quilters and enjoy a day away from the demands of daily life? Open Studio Days are so much fun! Spaces fill quickly, so sign up now for the spring and summer dates of your choice. Carol and Martha look forward to seeing you there.
Carol's ordered lots of new fabrics, scheduled to arrive over the next several months. Selections from MODA fabrics; Timeless Treasures; Red Rooster; Hoffman; some gorgeous new batiks; Christmas fabrics; and blenders.  It will be fun to arrange the new bolts around the shop. One of the newer Fed Ex delivery men even carries the cartons upstairs to us. Life is good!
We so appreciate the time you spend reading our newsletter and a warm welcome to our newest readers. Don't forget to check out Dan's Ramblings ~ an eclectic blend of quilting, greenhouse & gardening commentaries.
It's fun having our winter quilting friends dropping by the shop these days! Martha can't help but notice the hand knits you're wearing or the quilted bag you're carrying. Show and Tell is always welcomed. We love seeing the phone photos of your recent quilts and your precious grandchildren. We're also happy to assist you by telephone and on our website. Visit our Facebook page, click to “like” us, and we'll keep you updated with occasional news between our regular monthly newsletters.
Stay warm and happy quilting,

Carol, Dan & Martha
